National Asian Pacific American Museum Commission Swearing-In

Congratulations to our own Joanne Kwong who was officially sworn in on June 12 to the Commission to Study the Potential Creation of a National Museum of Asian Pacific American History and Culture

In a ceremony held in the Library of Congress, Joanne joined fellow Commissioners:

  • Jay Xu, director emeritus of the Asian Art Museum
  • Chiling Tong, president and CEO or National Asian/Pacific Islander American Chamber of Commerce and Entrepreneurship
  • Tina Wei Smith, former executive director, White House Initiative on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders
  • Dennis Chen, former deputy political director, The White House
  • Rodney Davis, former U.S. representative
  • Kevin Kim, former commissioner, New York City Department of Small Business Services
  • Michelle Steel, former U.S. representative

Emceed by author, journalist, and filmmaker Richard Lui, the event included greetings by Speaker Hakeem Jeffries, Rep. Ted Lieu, Secretary Elaine Chao, and Rep. Grace Meng, who sponsored the bill, and a beautiful performance of the national anthem by Reno Anoai. In attendance also was the Commission's fiscal sponsor, the Asian American Arts Alliance, represented by Executive Director Lisa Gold and friend Board Chair Reena Jana.

Congrats again to Joanne and all the Commissioners!
